I have left Microsoft's pasture for the greener swath that is Linux. Windows was fun but I felt constrained. I have installed Ubuntu Oneiric Ocelelot 11.10. The funny thing is my default media player for audio files under Windows 98 was Cubic Player. On Win 2K-7 was Winamp. On Linux...Cubic Player. I feel right at home again.

I just read that Gadaffy's family is bringing a lawsuit against NATO. What in holy fuck do they expect? Sympathy? OK, how many people did he and his cronies kill? Thousands, tens of thousands? I have made the decision to discontinue use of Winamp. It used to be be my goto media player for everything, but was starting to show its age. The module plug-in has been abandoned and left to rot while the MP3 and other "modern" plugins got top priority. My new media player has become XMPlay by un4seen Developments. XMPlay has, what my favorite other media player Cubic Player for DOS does, a MIDI soft-synth.

I ordered an All to HDMI box to convert my video signals to, well, HDMI. For a few years I was using a VGA box to do the conversions. The VGA device gave good results but the video quality from 8-Bit game systems was really poor for my tastes. The HDMI box however, treats everything right. My Atari 2600's video is crisp with no sign of inter-layer fuzz. However, I also have an Intensity Shuttle which I still plan on using when I sort out all of my video signal woes. The Shuttle does not like 8- or certain 16-bit game systems. My theory is that the chroma subchannel in the video signals is dorking with the video processor. The work will be covered on my project site, so stay tuned.

Right now I am in the process of building a new PC to put all of my files and crap that is my digital life. I already have the optical drive. The keyboard and mouse got here yesterday just gotta order the MoBo later and see if it fits later when it gets here. I should be getting an all-in-one card reader and Bluetooth adapter today in the mail to test. The case was free as that was a scavenge deal but the damn thing is colour code 0xFF0000 but that will be changed to 0x000000 some time later. After that, PSU, RAM, then HDD.

I acquired a Toshiba Tecra 8200 awhile back and looked up its sound canvas and noticed something intriguing, it supports FM synthesis. But installing 4 OSes Win98 1st and 2nd, WinMe & Win2K got me nowhere but annoyance. A whole bunch of months later, I took my external HDD an put it into Tracy and installed WinXP and behold; FM Synth! So I promptly moved my "assets" from the root of the drive onto the desktop and installed Winamp and built a new library from its location. Also before I forget I am trying to get AdPlug to work, Any suggestions?

I finally got my new monitor unpacked. And quite frankly, it is awesome. No bells or whistles. No bullshit. The monitor in question is an I-INC iF281DPB. What I like about it is it just has 2 inputs; HDMI and YPbPr/VGA. The selling point was the full HD and the price; $350. I hope to get about 4-5 years out of this monitor. If you were wondering the model of TV I had that died, it was an Olevia LT26HVX that I got 3 weeks shy of 3 years ago. Here's a picture of the new monitor if you're interested.

My TV of 4 years finally died, but it was a long time coming. She will live on as she will be recycled.
But the torch will be passed to a monitor that has VGA and HDMI inputs only, something simple and lightweight. On a lighter note, finally got my LCD panel working...sort of. I toasted the resistors for the backlight not realising that i was powering the panel THROUGH them.

Shit, this absolutely sucks. My Uncle Robert committed suicide. He was found hanging in his apartment's garage. Not kidding. This guy had some problems; drugs, possibly alcohol, and most likely an undiagnosed mental illness. Now he can finally rest in the peace that he so badly needed. Now my family tree has shrunk immensely. I am under more pressure to have kids to keep my families up and running. I am the third youngest male on my father's side and the youngest on my mother's side. Looks like I've got to start looking for a mate soon. Also my Aunt Terry is going down the same path and I am justifiably concerned about my family's fate. I wonder everyday if my family will survive and lift the burden of continuing the blood line. My maternal uncle is dead of hepatitis. This shit has to stop, or I will suffer the same fate as my dead relatives. What scares me more, is my sister and mother are on the identical path. This is quite interesting. When under Windon't Haxplease, my wireless network interface makes my audio pop and click ~1-1.5 seconds and also drops my connection like a bad date. Under the command of Major Tux, my audio is crisp and clean, but pops when data is exchanged. Guess the Linux drivers only tell my wlan0 interface to only speak when spoken to.

I was recently pondering the setup on my jukebox PC and realised that I have a 3-decade-old drive underneath a 2-week-old drive. The former a 1.2 MB 5.25" floppy, the latter a CD/(DVD+RW/DL)LS that can hold up to, if I can find the right media, a good 15.9 GiB of data, the equivalent of 15036.52 of those floppies. The relatively geriatric drive that I have came out of my 2nd, yes 2nd computer, a 286, and this thing still fucking works.

I finally figured out how to get 3 sound cards plus a High-Speed USB card in one PC. Use a different OS. I spent money on an OS that can't use certain hardware. The OS that is a waste of dough is Windows Me. This PC will be running either Win2K OR Win98 with a harddrive swap. 2K for backup purposes and 98 for purely multimedia. BTW, The sound cards in this behemoth are:
1. Creative Sound Blaster 16 for FM Synthesis
2. Creative Sound Blaster Live! for Soundfonts
3. Turtle Beach Santa Cruz for surround sound functions
Pretty soon I'll be getting a DVD burner. Keep you posted!

I am finally insured now WITH THE STATE! now my meds only cost $118 a month as opposed to my prev post statment. I got terminated from "the Shack." Now I manhandle golf carts for $9.00/hr at a country club for the overly rich who have nothing better to do with their time. Got the Wii, saving up for the PS3 with the unemployment checks I get. Moved to an apartment. For X-mas of '06 procured this sweet new Lenovo 3000 N100: 1.6 GHz proc, 512 M mem, 128 M gfx mem, and a whole lotta whup-ass! Not much else. Toodles!

Guess what?! I've been uninsured for almost a year and and pay out the ass for my ~$600 medications. Never mind the fact that I make ~$800 at the aforementioned place of employment and to boot I have to pay $200 in rent! Fucked up, ain't it?! On top of that I get a letter in the mail stating that my application for insurance is DECLINED.Yeah, don't laugh. I'm pretty sure my fat fuck Guido grandfather and Kvetching STEP-grandmother told my father todo. My paychecks can't just go towards just meds and shelter, i need to eat and live to make a living. I got so pissed off at the situation and cried yes, CRIED in the backroom for five minutes thinking about my hopeless situation. I'm almost 21 years old, I don't need this shit. Now that you mention it you know how long I had to wait before i got that letter, FIVE MONTHS, five fucking months to make a decision that should have taken five days. I have autism, I am a disabled citizen of the USA where the fuck are my rights, Huh? Am i not a citizen, just because I have a disability, doesn't make me less of a person, does it? I thought they would sound kinda iffy bein' USB and all. NO! In fact, every audio proggy that used probably 95-99 F$^&^@G PERCENT of my feeble 500 MHz P2/III now takes a civil 30-40%. Somethin' tells me that my audio hardware (internal) is a bandwith hog. About my game controller that seems to be taking a back burner is going slow and taking forever is actually coming together and being mocked-up. Picture to follow upon completion of said controller. Yesterday I was at my gramps' house, uh NEW, house for his 70th B-Day party. Which by-the-way turned out to be a mini Ruggiero family reunion, more on this later. This place is definitely better than that narrow place in Philly. The house has three safes in it. All of which are in the basement, Grams or Gramps had the combo to one of them. The other two are either in a wall covered by a really clever piece of wood or IN THE FUGGIN' FLOOR! I'm getting the one in the floor's combo from the manufacturer tomorrow. That one in the wall however, will take some time as the safe looks to me about, idunno, 'bout half a century old and will need a safe cracker to break that one open. About that mini-reunion, if you were in this place, you'd think you were in New York, I know, off topic. Anyway, this place kicks incomprehensible amounts of ass! This palace, compared to the old place, has a fireplace (cool we can now roast marshmallows inside.) These're the same people not less than two months ago were living in the 70's now have Vonage, Comcast HSI, and DIGITAL CABLE! I also got an X360 a while ago, then about four days ago, bought a hard drive for it. Now I can save my progress in games that I rent.

It seems that no-one cares about what what I have to say anymore. I was spread thin at work for a week and almost got terminated because some assholes decided to be either late or uncaring about what they had to do! One day, these fucking delivery guys stole an $800 LCD tv, the person that was supposed to come in for work at 9am, asshole shows up at 10:30. Real fucking fair. My manager told my sister that I was borderline fired, then the little bitch rats me out to my mother, My mother now keeps telling me to "step up," what the fuck does that mean. When ever I say I'm doing my job right, she keeps putting her hand up as if saying "whatever, don't want to hear it." That is starting to piss me off. My mother shouldn't be telling me how to do my job. That's my responsibility, NOT HERS. Also whenever she goes out with her friend Patty, it seems she gets slightly drunk and she forgets about everyone and wants to start arguments.
Not to mention repeating herself a million fucking times.

I also got the iPod Shuffle 512MB for my B-Day, August the 14th. But to make space for it I am getting rid of an orphaned SNES. Speaking of getting rid of things... I heaved my busted old bicycle into a trash dumpster out back of work, somebody went dumpster diving fished my bike out, and revived it. Guess how I know??? I saw it out front, well not completely out front, of where I work just sitting there all banged up but still rideable, somewhat. That concludes my ramblibgs for this evening... Goodnight.

Those 2 CIAs that I ordered, they were at my door yesterday. I promptly installed them. That worked.... But, the RAM that came from the factory, DEAD, guess I'm up Schitssons Creek without a paddle... NOT!!! I am so proud that I am a packrat when it comes to parts. I had a full 64K of RAM I scavenged from an ATARI 800xl that died on me. Recycling is such a beautiful thing. Before doing a "test firing" of my beloved C64, I put new heatsink grease, after cleaning off the old 20someyearold crap, on the VIC. Up next??? I don't know, SOMETHING!

While socketing the chips in my C64, I noticed that the schematic, that came with its "bible" or the programmers guide to you "haters" out there, is DEAD FUCKING WRONG!!! CBM has pins going one way on the board and a totally different way on the schematic! WTH is going on here?! I am leaning towards a copyright trap or some other load of bullshit. Still need lots of sockets...

While replacing 2 CIAs in my C64, I ripped out not one, but two of the PCB traces. Luckily I have the schematics for the '64. Also I broke my Game Controller from Hell in a fit of unknown rage. In place of the original board and other crap, I am using a Saitek PX-series PS2 controller as the shell/carrier.

Back then I was what, 3-5, WHO CARES, When the screen turns blood red and your "human" target shows his "pearly" whites in a mean and nasty kind of way, you'd want to leave the room like your ass was on fire, SCREAMING if I might add. Well I am no longer scared of that game, because I faced my fears 5 years, yes 5, F-I-V-E, FIVE, ago when I got it again. The game still sends chills up and down my spine here and there when ever I play it.

While browsing some of my links I was visiting Kevin Horton's website, were --on some of his images-- letters, alphabetic letters, that matched in an alarming way to how I write some of them. Take my letter "Z," for example, it looks like a curled 2 with a stroke through it.

My $620 LCD TV is going dead on me. It shows in place of black it shows a speckled/striped green fuzz in those areas. Looks like I'll be getting that fixed in the next few weeks. More posts to come.

I got a couple things, perf-board and a project enclosure. These will form the shell of the controller. Now, all I have to do is measure out my perf-board to fit inside the recess that the plastic top would normally go in. I finally figured out how I'm going to use all of the buttons: Four shoulder triggers per side; Numeric keypad 0-9, #, *; View hat, Start and Select; An finally A, B, C, X, Y, and Z. WOW, this is going to be one busy controller. Now all I have to do is figure out how to use all of the analog inputs...

Well, as some of you out there probably have heard of Leo Bodnar's USB mega-controller, I have ordered one and received it today. About 2-3 hours after opening the package in which it came(from the good ol' U.K.). The steps are as follows for the modification:
1.I took the USB connector off.
2. Put a 3.15 metre USB cable from a PS2(PlayStation 2) microkeyboard in its place after looping the line through the board as I did not have any stress relief.
3. Soldered it all together.
4. plugged it into a functioning PC.
5. Got it working on my first try.
Now that I saw that my OS(WinheXP) saw it I decided to take a dead servos power and data line to a scavenged PS2 analog stick it detected it right away.
Now all I have todo is to find a suitable case and layout for the buttons. Maybe a project enclosure from work... Come to think of it I can probably get rid of the top from it and use a sheet of perfboard as the control surface and cover at the same time... I don't know let me think about it, then I will release more details as work on the controller progresses. OH! I forgot to mention that any other projects have either been put on hold or cancelled so I can work on this controller.

...One step closer to my goal.
I just got a new GFX card for my Media Rig computer. It is a GeFORCE 4000-based card. Now I 128 MB of GFX RAM instead of a candy-ass 5.5 Megg piece-of-shit on-board grafix adapter. I can play pretty much any game i want... Except games that require a P4 or better. Like I'll be playing Warcraft. NOT!!! If you ever see me play that game call someone. NO, better yet smack, NO, SLAM my head with a cast-iron skillet that outdoorsy people use. THAT will knock me back into reality. Now my hardware is as follows:
128 MB of GFX RAM
VTB Multimedia Santa Cruz APC(Audio Processor Card)
Samsung CDRW
5 port usb card (ran out of ports)
Linksys LNE100 Ethernet
2 Hard drives
3.5" 1.44 MB floppy
And finally NO SPACE LEFT TO INSTALL ANYTHING!!!!!!

As soon as I get a hang for this whole blogging thing down, I'll keep posting on a near-daily basis.
But, about myself I am a 19 yr old HS grad with almost an EE degree, that's Electrical Engineering to you lay people out there. I like to build esoteric circuits for unknown reasons, even if I don't know what I'm getting myself into. I'm also, what I'd like call myself, a technology collector. Being an electronics nut, I disassemble not rip apart devices to see what makes them "tick". Disassebly is where you take something apart so later on it can be reassembled. Ripping apart is merciless destruction of unknown magnitude on the unsuspecting victim... wait, did I say "victim," I'm sorry, device. And finally I am a game system modder, making foreign games work on US consoles and vice-versa.
